Located on the Sea of Cortez, about 60 miles south of Arizona, in the Mexican state of Sonora, Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, also known as "Rocky Point" to gringos and many local Mexicans, is where the desert meets the sea.  The closest ocean beaches to many southwestern U.S. areas, it is only a four-hour drive from Phoenix or Tucson, Arizona. Because of the warm climate in the winter, many people visit Rocky Point from the United States and Canada.
